The NMCGSA Symposium has become an important staple in the Department of Near and Middle East Civilizations, as well as within the University of Toronto community and beyond. The symposium continues to provide promising graduate students – totaling over 100 graduate student presentations over the 14 years – a unique opportunity to share their original research with the scholarly community in a conference-like forum, the proceedings of which are periodically published. In the past, the symposium has included the participation of faculty, undergrad, and graduate students from the Department of NMC, the U of T community, as well as from around the world (including Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East). The NMCGSA is uniquely positioned to be a terrain of cross-disciplinary and transhistorical debate, discussion, and critique. In the past, graduate students from a number of disciplines – including religion, history, sociology, literature, archaeology, Egyptology, language, political science, and so on – have interacted in the spirit of scholarly sharing and learning. Indeed, such is the strength and value of the NMCGSA Annual Symposium.
DATE: March 2012 Please contact the Symposium Coordinators for more information. Recently, the Symposium Committee has established a new mandate to see that the proceedings of each symposium be published.
